Oldsmobile's answer to the personal luxury class: chrome-rich lines, power steering as standard, soft top in perfect condition — summer highlight of the hall.
The cult wagon with roof glass panels — a favourite with families. Spacious, unmistakable, a symbol of 1970s American road trips.
Franz Huber, 62, a mechanical engineer from Tulln, has collected Oldsmobiles for over three decades. What began as a teenage dream after an exchange year in Ohio is now one of the few dedicated Oldsmobile collections in Austria.
"I didn't want an anonymous museum hall," Huber says. "Visitors should smell, feel, hear — that's why I explain in person why the Rocket engine was revolutionary and why Oldsmobile broke the rules with the Toronado in 1966."
His workshop in Sieghartskirchen restores not only his own cars — Huber helps Austrian classic owners source parts and documents every step for the show.
"Oldsmobile was General Motors' innovation lab. In Tulln I show what still fascinates us today."
From Easter we swap two exhibits: the 442 goes to the workshop for fine tuning, the Starfire takes centre stage.
Tech workshops for vocational students: Rocket V8 basics, front-wheel drive explained — 90 minutes, max. 25 people, free for Lower Austrian schools.
The printed tour guide (48 pages) is available at the ticket desk from season opening — €12, €8 for Oldtimer Club NÖ members.
Easy to combine with Garten Tulln, the Danube cycle path or a stop on the B14 from Vienna to Krems.
